A 3-day camper route around the north of Tenerife

Slow Campers Volkswagen T4 in front of a volcanic mountain in Tenerife

If you don't have a full week but want to experience the north of Tenerife at a relaxed pace, 3 days are more than enough — without crossing the island or venturing into the touristy south. This itinerary stays entirely in the north, starting and finishing in El Sauzal.

DayAreaKey stop
1La Laguna and La OrotavaUNESCO historic centres and Canarian balconies
2GarachicoEl Caletón and the rebuilt seafaring village
3Icod de los Vinos and returnDrago Milenario and return to El Sauzal

Day 1 · La Laguna and La Orotava

From El Sauzal, La Laguna is about 10 minutes away: wander its historic centre (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) before continuing to La Orotava, around 25 km further, famous for its Canarian wooden balconies and its historic quarter.

Day 2 · Garachico

About 20 km further west, Garachico is the island's former seafaring capital, rebuilt after a volcanic eruption in the 17th century. El Caletón, its natural volcanic pools, is a must-stop.

Day 3 · Icod de los Vinos and return

About 10 km from Garachico, Icod de los Vinos is home to the Drago Milenario, one of the oldest and largest dragon trees in the Canary Islands. From here, the drive back to El Sauzal along the northern motorway is around 35 km.

Why this route makes sense in 3 days

By picking up and returning the camper in El Sauzal, you don't lose a single one of the 3 days to long drives — something that does happen if you hire in the south and have to cross the island to reach the north. If you have more time to spare, our one-week itinerary adds Teide and the south coast.
