The best time to come to Tenerife in a camper
Unlike almost any mainland Spanish destination, Tenerife doesn't really have a "bad season" — but north and south are almost two different climate zones, and knowing this helps you choose your dates and your camper route better.
A stable climate all year round
Average temperatures range from around 18°C in winter to 26°C in summer, with no frost and no extreme heat in any month. That's what makes Tenerife a destination you can visit at any time of year, without ruling any of them out from the start.
Greener, wetter north, drier south
The north of the island — where we're based, in El Sauzal — is greener and gets more rain, especially in winter: the trade winds hit the mountains and leave the moisture on this side. The south, in the rain shadow of the terrain, sees almost no rain between May and September and is much drier and sunnier for most of the year. If you're after green scenery, the north wins whatever the season; if you want guaranteed sunshine without checking the sky, the south is the safe bet.
Spring and autumn, the most comfortable months to get around
March-May and September-November bring mild temperatures, ideal for calm driving and for hiking in Anaga or heading up to Teide without being too cold or too hot.
Dates with a special atmosphere
If your trip happens to coincide, the Santa Cruz Carnival (February or March) is one of the biggest in the world, and the Corpus Christi carpets in La Orotava (June) cover the streets with flowers and coloured sand — an extra bit of atmosphere that has nothing to do with the weather.
